Unearthed at archeological sites in Israel , the glass dates back to the Roman Empire 's occupation of the Holy Land . The iridescent surface-coloring (or "patina") that adorns these pieces was naturally created by chemical reactions during the glass's long burial in the earth. Originally fragments of wine glasses, bowls and mirrors, the glass has been set in fine sterling silver and given a breath-taking new life.
